Sydney

Sydney has been attending Heartspring School since May. Before coming to Heartspring, her father had to quit working for 4 years because of Sydney’s aggression both to herself and to others and for lack of adequate support services. A local social service agency provided the family with a 250-pound home worker to help keep her from physically hurting herself and her mother.

In the time that she has been at Heartspring, Sydney has made remarkable progress. She has been able to enjoy visits from her parents, and she has not been abusive towards her parents in several months. Her teachers have remarked about how intelligent she is and how well she has reached her goals, including using her communication book to show staff what she wants, needs, and feels.

Sydney can now go to a grocery store and pick items from a list, wheel a cart around the store, clean her room, assist with her laundry, help with ‘Meals on Wheels’, and attend her first prom (and be a very well-behaved young woman).
