2011 Lights on the Lake Spokeschild
Once again, Max is helping to promote Lights on the Lake as our spokeschild in 2011. A creative and intelligent eight year old, Max's favorite subject in school is math because "it makes you smart," he said. Coming to Heartspring for speech therapy and also to take advantage of the amazing activities and resources offered by the CARE Program, Max has made fantastic improvements in his communication and social skills.
Max knows he has Asperger syndrome and that he’s different from other children, but he’s proud of himself and confident in his abilities according to his parents, Heather and Chauncey. “Max loves to listen to classical music and learning about history,” said Heather. “He has introduced me and everyone around him to the beautiful yet complex world of autism. Seeing the world through Max’s eyes has been a blessing.” For Heather and Chauncey, having a place like Heartspring to help Max has been invaluable. “It’s rare to find such a caring support system for your child. Autism is not a ‘one size fits all’ disability, “ said Heather. “Adapting to your child’s needs is what Heartspring does best and we’re forever grateful.”
