Max

2009 Lights on the Lake Spokeschild

MaxSix-year-old Max is incredibly smart. He knows so many things for his age but sometimes needs help with his social and communication skills. Max works with speech therapist Diane Gough to learn the rules of conversation so it is not one-sided, a result of his diagnosis of Pervasive Development Disorder. “We use his above average reading ability to write some social stories that address some areas he needs to work on,” said Diane. Since starting therapy, Max’s mom, Heather, says that he’s grown by leaps and bounds. She is thankful for the staff at Heartspring. “They appreciate him at Heartspring. They look at his strengths instead of his weaknesses.” Diane said Max will go far in this world when he learns how to use his brain to be more socially appropriate. Heather agrees, “He’s the most amazing child I¹ve ever known.”
